Parenting Groups

Expand

Cairnmillar runs two parenting programs. Each is facilitated by an experienced Psychologist and a student clinician.

1. Circle of Security

The Cairnmillar Child and Family Clinic is proud to launch its Parenting Group Program with the Circle of Security group program (COS-P) in June 2022.

What is the program about?
The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program is an established model based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.

In this eight week program, we will work together to help you to be more skilled at:

  • Understanding your child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs,
  • Supporting your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions,
  • Enhancing the development of their child's self esteem, and
  • Honouring the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure.

Who is it for?
This program is for all parents, including expecting parents. Parents with children under five usually find the resources most suitable to them, but the information is relevant to parents with older children as well. Circle of Security can help parents with children who are having behavioural or emotional difficulties, parents who are overwhelmed, depressed or anxious about parenting, and parents who simply wish to learn and reflect about their parenting.

When will it be held?
his program will be offered on Thursday mornings, 10-11:30am, for eight weeks. It will run from 2 June to 23 June, then break for two weeks for school holidays, then continue from 14 July to 4 August.

Where will it be held?
The group will be held online via Microsoft Teams.

Who will be runing the program?
The program will be held by Anita Gupta, an experienced Clinical Psychologist and facilitator of Circle of Security parenting groups. Anita will be assisted by a trainee psychologist.

How much does it cost?
The program costs $50 per session. You may be eligible for rebates of $32.90 with a valid Mental Health Care Plan. You must enrol in all eight sessions. Upfront payment attracts a discount, with an overall charge of $350.

How do I enrol?
Please contact our clinic staff on [email protected] or by phoning 9317 0622 to register your interest.

2. Bringing Up Great Kids

Bringing Up Great Kids is a six week program developed by the Australian Childhood Foundation. It provides an integrated suite of activities and tools that are unique and offer all parents and carers a fresh way to understand and enact relationships with their children.

It has been evaluated and found to be an effective program in supporting the development of mindful and positive relationships between parents/carers and children.

It focuses on building positive and nurturing relationships between parents and their children. The program aims to support parents to review and enhance their patterns of communication with their children, to promote more respectful interactions and encourage the development of children’s positive self-identity.

Who is it for?
This program is designed for parents of children aged 0-12. Parents who have done this program report more positive interactions with their children, less conflict and calmer family environments.

Parents groups are offered each term. A calendar of parenting groups can be viewed here.

    Managing Unhelpful Worries

Did you know that it is possible to be stressed and not be aware of it? Sometimes we can be so used to feeling rushed or worried that we don’t take the time to check in with how we are feeling.

  • Stress Reduction

    Stress Reduction

While it is fine to experience a little stress from time to time, ongoing, severe stress can lead to a range of physical and mental health problems. If you have felt stressed, overwhelmed, or have found it difficult to relax for more than two weeks, it is a good idea to prioritise stress management.
