Zohar is a Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Group Facilitator with over 20 years of experience in group leadership and facilitation and 15 years as a counsellor and psychotherapist. She has provisioned Clinical Supervision and has Lectured in Counselling and Psychotherapy for over a decade.

Zohar’s passion for counselling was sparked twenty years ago, after, at the behest of a pushy friend, she reluctantly attended a four-day counselling skills training intensive at The Cairnmillar Institute (followed by every course the institute had on offer at the time).

In 2009 she graduated with a Master of Counselling degree from Latrobe University. She has trained in the United States with Hal & Sidra Stone – founders of the Voice Dialogue approach and has undertaken Counselling Supervision training with Michael Carroll.

Zohar has worked as a counsellor, psychotherapist and clinical supervisor in a variety of industry settings, including the Albert Rd Clinic and Incolink, and in private practice. She takes a systems perspective when working with groups and with individuals and her work is trauma informed. Zohar is the founder and former Director of The Australian Centre for Voice Dialogue and was the principal therapist at Equilibrium counselling and psychotherapy.

She has taught in the counselling, allied health and medical programs at La Trobe University, the Institute for Emotion Focused Therapy, the University of New England and the Australian College of Applied Psychology - where she was the recipient of two Teaching Excellence Awards (2013 and 2018) “In recognition of sustained excellence in teaching and outstanding commitment to education”.

She is delighted to have returned to The Cairnmillar Institute as a member of their Academic team.

Expertise

Her methodological training is in interpersonal and psychodynamic psychotherapies, classic and contemporary Person-Centred approaches and Voice Dialogue. Her Masters’ specialisation was in Process Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy. This empirically validated approach to working with felt experience to access and process emotional information has added exponential depth to her therapeutic relationships and clinical practice. It is the development of this capacity for genuine relational depth that she wishes to encourage in students, so that they can bring who they are more fully into the therapeutic space and facilitate meaningful change in their clients’ lives.
