Health Psychology is offered both as a single unit, or as part of the Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) and the Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) programs. As such, this unit has pre-requisites of “a four year, or three year plus a fourth year, APAC accredited sequence in psychology within the last ten years”. Applicants will be required to upload a copy of their transcript to represent this. For more information, please see the admission criteria listed in the course pages

This unit focuses on the field of health psychology. It begins with an overview of the theory underpinning psychological factors in health and illness. It will include a focus on biopsychosocial factors and their impact on commonly presenting issues in health psychology contexts. In addition, this unit prepares students to understand and manage the impact of physical health issues and the importance of health promotion and education in community-based counselling organisations and in public and private psychological practice.

Taught at Master level (AQF 9), you will have the choice as to whether you undertake assessments in this unit or not. Those undertaking assessments may use this unit as a credit towards the Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) and the Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) at The Cairnmillar Institute.

Please note, single subject enrolment does not guarantee students a place in a Cairnmillar program of study. Eligibility criteria and recognition of prior learning restrictions do apply. For all enquiries, please contact to our Education team.
