This unit provides an opportunity to gain understanding of theoretical background, concepts, and practical tools needed to work with families to facilitate change. Students will explore how family history and structure, social beliefs and systems such as education and health, influence individual and family wellbeing and gain skills in coaching to assist parents in developing achievable goals. In addition, particular needs of First Nation peoples and families from multicultural backgrounds are considered. The knowledge students will gain in this unit will be consolidated by exploring a series of evidence-based approaches and strategies to support families in complex and stressful situations.
