FAQs

Can I have my interview by Skype?

Expand

Yes, if you are overseas or out of state for the offered interview time it is possible to hold an interview via Skype or Zoom. Check your interview invitation for more details on how to request this (you will normally need to reply to the invitation by email and provide your Skype User ID).

The interview will normally be held at the originally offered time (note all interview offers are Melbourne time – if you are overseas you will need to work out the correct time for your timezone).

Can I re-use old referee reports?

Expand

References are provided through http://www.psychologyreference.org – a guide to the service can be found here.

Our preference is for you to provide new requests/referee reports each time you apply mostly to ensure that they are available for the full consideration period. If your referee reports from a previous application period are still in the www.psychologyreference.org system then yes, you can share them with us again and we will accept them if the service provides them.

You will still need to have an active account and may need to login to www.psychologyreference.org and ‘share’ the reports with the Cairnmillar Institute again before we will be able to see them.

NOTE: please be aware however that www.psychologyreference.org do sometimes clean their database and delete old or expired reports. If the reports have been deleted then you will need to re-request reports from the same or new referees.

Please contact the service directly if you have further questions about using old referee reports: https://www.psychologyreference.org/contact

Bachelor of Psychology and Counselling graduates will develop a broad range of important tertiary education skills that prepare graduates for employment in administration, advertising, business, community services (e.g., child protection), counselling, government, human rights, media, policy development, public relationship, publishing, research, and more.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Psychology and Counselling will be eligible to apply for membership to the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), which in turn enables registration as a counsellor with the Australian Register of Counselling and Psychotherapists (ARCAP).

Graduates will also be able to register as a counsellor with PACFA. Graduates who go on to study a Master of Counselling & Psychotherapy or Graduate Diploma of Counselling & Psychotherapy will then also be eligible for registration as a psychotherapist with the ACA or PACFA.

Graduates will also be eligible to apply for further study under an APAC accredited 4th year program, such as the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) to continue a study pathway towards general registration as a psychologist. Note: completion of this degree alone is not sufficient for registration with AHPRA as a psychologist. Additional study will be required. Students who obtain an 70 average in the psychology major (PSY) units of the program will be eligible for automatic entry to the Cairnmillar Institute Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) in the next academic intake should they choose to apply.
