Clinic

Welcome to the cairnmillar clinics

The Cairnmillar Clinic represents the clinical services arm of the Cairnmillar Institute.

Our clinics are located across Melbourne, with each offering a range of services to our clients. See our clinic locations here.

Our clinics work towards taking the latest findings in research and teaching in the field of mental health and converting that into therapeutic outcomes for our clients. We have experienced clinicians offering psychological, counseling and assessment services across a broad range of presentations to children (ages 4+), adolescents, adults, parents, couples and families.

These experienced clinicians also work alongside our students in their final years to mentor them in providing services in general and focused areas of psychology, counseling & psychotherapy. Our student clinicians work in our Cairnmillar Community Clinic, offering free one on one counseling and low-cost assessment services.

All of our services are affirming of diversity, including neurodiversity, gender diversity, and sexuality diversity. We believe that #BetterMentalHealth should be accessible for everyone.

In order to continuously improve clinic quality and safety we actively seek feedback from clients relating to their levels of satisfaction across a various aspects of the clinic. Our ratings have consistently been between 4 and 5 out of 5 (where 5 is highly satisfied). We also receive short answer responses in relation to what was great, or where we can improve. Feedback is critical for helping inform changes so we can achieve the best outcomes for client care. The results gained from the survey in the first half of 2024, told us that our clients would have preferred more options for appointments outside of business hours. As a result of this feedback, from February 2025 the Community Clinic will be open between 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday. Feedback has made a difference – thank you!

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri and Bunurong Peoples of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which The Cairnmillar Institute is located, and we pay our respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging. We also extend these respects to any First Nations peoples engaging with these materials, and our services

Sometimes in life there’s lots of things goin’ on that can be hard and trying, or easy and happy, but my artwork gives me strength to see out the bad times. This is my Country before colonisation. The lines are like a map representing how our people shaped the Country with their spiritual connections told in songs and stories. The blue water and the red oxide land show my journey line with places I’ve stopped along the way. The small linear patches of dots are all the different mobs and families around Country. The brown patterns and shapes are mountain ridges and waterholes representing time past. The diamond patterns are from patterns on our old shields. Their colours represent connection to culture and the red dirt and many coloured sands that make up our beautiful Country. The group of Elders sitting with their spears are telling stories of Bunjil the eagle, our Creator, and passing down their knowledge of tracking and hunting. The goannas are my Ancestors watching, mesmerised, over their Country and culture.
