Clinical Expertise

Marieke has additional experience as an academic sociologist and writer. She has lectured and supervising sociology and creative writing students in universities and schools, and has facilitated writing workshops for people with illness and chronic pain. Marieke brings a gentle and caring presence, as well as a passionate commitment to client empowerment, underpinned by both academic research and work experience.

About

Marieke is currently completing a Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy at the Cairnmillar Institute. She has previously studied psychotherapy in London, England, and has experience of working in the mental healthcare system in Hackney, one of London’s most culturally and socioeconomically diverse boroughs. As a peer support coordinator and client liaison for a suicide bereavement service, she conducted supervised counselling with clients and built a programme rooted in lived-experience. She values client agency and recovery-oriented support.
