Course Overview
The Working Mind (TWM) is an evidence-based workplace mental health program developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia. Designed to create mentally healthy workplaces, TWM equips both leaders and employees with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise changes in mental health, reduce stigma, build resilience, and foster psychologically safe workplace cultures.
Our interactive professional development workshop is designed to meet the needs of both managers and employees, providing practical strategies that can be immediately applied in the workplace. Through engaging discussions, evidence-based learning, and real-world scenarios, participants will gain a deeper understanding of mental health and their role in creating supportive, high-performing teams.
The workshop begins by exploring the mental health continuum and the importance of recognising the signs of good, declining, and poor mental health in ourselves and others. Participants will examine the impact of stigma in the workplace and learn how to challenge misconceptions, encourage open conversations, and contribute to a more inclusive and psychologically safe environment.
A key focus of the program is understanding the relationship between stress, resilience, and wellbeing. Participants will explore common workplace stressors and practise applying the Big 4 Coping Strategies—simple, evidence-based techniques designed to strengthen resilience and improve responses to everyday workplace challenges.
Managers completing the full-day program will also develop practical leadership skills to confidently support the mental health and wellbeing of their teams. This includes recognising when an employee may need support, initiating supportive conversations, and identifying appropriate workplace responses that promote wellbeing while maintaining a positive and productive work environment.
The Working Mind complements Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) by focusing on creating a workplace culture where mental health is openly discussed and supported. Together, the two programs help organisations not only respond effectively when someone is experiencing a mental health problem but also proactively build resilient teams and a culture where employees feel safe, valued, and supported.
