Cairnmillar makes the Top 10 AFR BOSS Best Places to Work for 2023 list
On April 20, Cairnmillar Institute was honoured to be recognised as one of Australia and New Zealand’s Best Places to Work in the Government, Education, and Not-for-Profit industry. The prestigious annual list, published by The Australian Financial Review and BOSS Publishing, is based on a rigorous assessment process managed by Australia’s leading behavioural science consultancy, Inventium.
The award ceremony, held at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, saw Cairnmillar recognised from over 700 nominated organisations acknowledging its commitment to creating a culture that fosters respect, integrity, compassion, professionalism, and collaboration and reflecting its dedication to improving the employee experience.
To be considered for this award, Cairnmillar completed a staff survey that asked employees about their experience working for the organisation. All entries were assessed based on three key facets of employee experience: autonomy, mastery, and connectedness, at the individual, team, and leader levels. Notably, there is an overarching facet of purpose, which examines whether an organization seeks to make valuable contributions to society beyond generating economic value.
The Workplaces of the Future framework, used for assessing the entries, was developed by behavioural science consultancy Inventium. It is based on research from top universities, such as Harvard and Stanford, and it identifies 10 critical factors for creating a brilliant workplace and optimising motivation and engagement in staff.
This award is a testament to the institute’s unwavering commitment to its core values and its dedication to creating a culture that promotes employee well-being and engagement. By focusing on critical factors for creating a brilliant workplace and optimizing motivation and engagement, Cairnmillar has set itself apart as a trailblazer in Clinical Psychology and Training in Australia. (CEO, Provost and Acting Dean) Professor Kathryn von Treuer’s message from Cairnmillar’s 60 years anniversary book called “Body . Mind . Spirit” highlights Cairnmillar’s unique vision and purpose.
“Our mission is to help the community, promote mental health and wellbeing, break intergenerational cycles, and help kids with learning difficulties reach their full potential so that they can become productive members of society and live fulfilling lives.”
These values have guided Cairnmillar’s success in the first place, and they will continue to be the guiding star as the institute faces future challenges.
“Cairnmillar’s numbers tell a story of the past five years, such as full-time staff increased from 70 to 100, casual staff doubled to 20, and student numbers increased from 220 to 500 a year. The institute has provided 80,000 free mental health sessions for the community annually, and it has a 97 percent student retention rate that is the envy of the university system.”
As Cairnmillar celebrates its 60th anniversary and is recognised as one of the Top 10 AFR BOSS Best Places to Work for 2023, the institute takes another step forward and is poised to continue its upward trajectory and make even greater contributions to society in the years to come.
