Managing Depression and Anxiety with CBT

Managing Depression and Anxiety with CBT

What is Managing Depression and Anxiety with CBT?

It is an evidence-based program designed to help individuals better understand and manage symptoms of anxiety and depression. Drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based psychological approaches, the program provides practical skills to help participants improve their mood, build resilience, and engage more fully in life.

Program Structure:

In this ten-week program, participants will have the opportunity to learn and discuss:

  • Understanding anxiety and depression and how these difficulties are maintained
  • Setting meaningful goals and creating positive change
  • Increasing activities that enhance mood, pleasure, and achievement
  • Using calming and stress-management techniques
  • Understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and behaviours
  • Identifying and challenging unhelpful thinking patterns
  • Reducing avoidance and gradually facing fears
  • Building confidence, resilience, and strategies for maintaining progress

Who is it for?

This program is suitable for adults' experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, low motivation, or difficulties managing emotions. It is ideal for individuals seeking practical strategies to improve their wellbeing in a supportive and structured group environment.

When and where will it be held?

The next group will run weekly from October 5 to December 7, 2026 (for ten weeks).

The group will be conducted online, although in-person sessions may also be considered depending on interest.
Please note: All courses run subject to sufficient enrolments. We run these groups throughout the year; therefore, the best option is to contact us to discuss available dates and times.

How much does it cost?

Clients with a GP Mental Health Care Plan for group sessions are eligible for a Medicare rebate on the cost of sessions. In this instance, the sessions will have an out-of-pocket gap fee of $36.40 per session. Please discuss with your GP to see if you are eligible.

Clients who have private health insurance may be able to claim the sessions through psychology extras.
If you cannot access the program using any of these funding/subsidy options, the private fee per session is $70.

Who is facilitating the program?

The Group will be facilitated by Clinical Psychologist, Dr Imogene Smith, with support from a Provisional Psychologist.
