Assistantship - Research Assistant

Position Purpose

Research Assistants (RA) will be contracted to provide direct research support for a Cairnmillar Institute academic staff member who holds a current research grant or contract that has a specific budget item for doctoral-level RA. Specific duties would be dictated by the needs of the grant-funded research project, but may include activities such as participant recruitment, literature searched, data collection, data analysis, and manuscript writing, as directed by the Chief Investigator of the grant, at the rate of 7.5 hours (0.2FTE) per week per semester.

 

Key Responsibilities

Research Assistance Provide research assistance, such as participant recruitment, literature searched, data collection, data analysis, and manuscript writing.
Administration Research administrative responsibilities
Service Attendance at Faculty, Course and Discipline meetings as required

 

Key Selection Criteria

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to work within a team and independently
  • Well developed written and oral communication skills
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite including Microsoft Teams and Zoom
  • Familiarity with data analysis software
  • Experience in research assistance desirable but not essential
  • Familiarity with Cairnmillar policies, systems and processes desirable but not essential

Qualifications, Registrations and Memberships

  • Completed at least 4 years of study in an accredited Psychology program and enrolled in Masters or Doctoral level qualification in Psychology
  • Current fulltime enrolment in good standing in the PhD course
  • Adequate progress on the thesis, as confirmed by the Principal Supervisor, such that the expectations of the assistantship will not interfere with progress to PhD completion

Other requirements

The successful applicant will need to have unrestricted right to work in Australia, a valid Working with Children Check and Police Check.
